Kamalee and I enjoyed her first field trip this week. What a blessing to be able to go with. I was excited. And nervous. I wasn't sure how Kamalee would react to me coming along. Or being there. And most of all, I was kind of nervous to see how everyone interacted with Kamalee. I don't get much from her about what her day is like at school. And the communication notebook with her teachers has been less than informative. (I will be addressing that with them soon.)
But, I was pleasantly surprised!
There of course was the one moment and one child that I didn't want to encounter. But I guess there always has to be one. One day, I will learn how to respond and NOT have an emotional reaction. For this day, I just kind of left it as it was and tried not to let the one moment ruin the rest of the day.
Here we are on the bus. This little boy on the right seems to be Kamalee's best friend. I am so happy I finally got to meet him. And I wish I knew his parents. I want to say thank you and let them know they have the most adorable and sweet boy. He was attached to Kami all day. And repeatedly told me "I am so glad I am in Kami's group!" He sits next to Kami in class and has a cubbie right next to hers. I don't know why he feels connected to her or what he likes about her (because God knows she wasn't completely pleasant to him! :) but I am so thankful for this little boy. The majority of the class was great with Kami and made a point to say "hi" or offer assistance every time they saw her. Or yelled across the way..."Hi Kami!".
But this one boy seems to be her protector. And he makes a point to eat with her and play with her at recess, everyday. Thank you God for putting him in her life.
On a wagon ride touring the apple orchard. And of course, the [boy]friend asked to sit by us! :)
She was so anxious to see a cow. Apparently, this was her whole reason for the trip.
A very fat pig was in this pen. I mean ridiculous, can't help but giggle, fat pig. And of course all of the littles giggled like crazy.

And her entire class...ready to go back to school.
Back to the 'one' little girl. On the bus back, she was the little girl who didn't want to listen and wouldn't stop talking. :) She made a comment to me saying Kami was the "worst" in the class. Apparently because one day she got 2 time outs. TWO. Can you believe it??
All while, I am thinking...man, just two. Great day, Kami!

I replied by saying that sometime happens.
Kami's assistant stepped in and said the right words. But I just chuckled...because she seemed to be the 'naughty' of the class. Irony.
And...one boy was talking to Kami's assistant and says.... "I wish I was like her. So I could have an assistant too."
Oh...the simplicity of a kindergartener.
Now...I get to prepare to go back and talk to them all about Down syndrome. Let's pray I can find kindergarten lingo to help them understand.
